Cannabis and Aging

Cannabis and Aging

As we grow older, our bodies change. Cannabis (marijuana) can help ease the effects of aging, and it’s worth exploring. In addition to helping you mellow out, cannabis can expand our capacity for living well, help you sleep, reduce inflammation, address the aches and pains of aging, and take the edge off after a long day.

We know more now than we used to about cannabis, the therapeutic compounds it produces, and how those work with our endogenous cannabinoid system, also called the endocannabinoid system (ECS).

Discovered in 1988, the ECS was named after the cannabis plant that helped lead to its discovery. One of its primary functions is homeostasis, the maintenance of a stable environment within the body. Phytocannabinoid compounds the cannabis plant produces, like THC and CBD, work with this system and can have a positive, some would say, therapeutic effect on our bodies and the relationship between our bodies and minds. Cannabis has more to offer than a good high.
